Northern Rivers Children's Services Limited Caring for the community since 1980

History and Profileof the Service

Welcome to Northern Rivers Children's Services Limited (NRCS). From humble beginning over 30 years ago, we have grown into the largest community owned organisation in the Northern Rivers that provides a range of care, welfare and education services. NRCS is a non-profit Incorporated Association funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the Department of Families, Housing, community Services & Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) and from childcare fees

The Association was formally incorporated in 1986, but has been operating since February 1980 (as Lismore District Family Day Care Inc). Beginning with a few FDC Educators in Lismore, we now operate the following services.

  • Northern Rivers Family Day Care, one of the largest FDC schemes in NSW with around 170 Registered Educators providing care for up to 2000 children per week from Tweed Heads to Coraki south of Lismore.

  • An innovative long day care centre in Nimbin also funded by DEEWR. Low child/adult ratios, a high proportion of under 3’s, and a maximum of 15 children make this centre unique.
  • Northern Rivers In Home Care (IHC) service covering the Northern Rivers and the adjoining coastal Shires of Ballina and Byron. IHC is a government funded and subsidised ‘nanny type’ service where our trained and supervised Educators provide care and education in the child’s home.
  • Several Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) services based in local public primary schools.
  • An early intervention program called Ready Set Go (RSG), funded by FaHCSIA, providing Behaviour, Speech Therapy and Family Support in participating Lismore childcare services.
  • A registered training organisation (RTO) providing recognised qualifications in childcare (expected to commence operation in 2012).
